Winter Rubies

5.25.2012

When leaves turn colors, what they’re really doing is withdrawing their chlorophyll cells for winter, which in turn exposes their true pigments. Not every leaf’s colors show so visibly though. If it wasn’t for a brief gust of wind and a ray of sunlight, I would have never seen this brilliant red on my morning photo-walk.
