Hula-Butterfly

5.22.2012

She was pleased when I recognized that she was a “Hooper” and allowed me to take pictures after I had asked. It was late though, and with the evening light almost gone, legibly capturing her seemed impossible. I was fairly new to photography and didn’t know what to do until one of her friends suggested for me to use my on-camera-flash. I was confused. My only experiences with using flash had been to freeze motion, not preserve it. It was here that I  first learned how to do both and after some experimenting I landed this shot, which turned her elegant dance into a butterfly of motion.
